Currently the odds on favorite to win the Euro 2020 Golden Boot award, England’s Harry Kane may just be worth a bet even with the lowest odds on the board. The captain of the English National team is one of the best pure goal scorers th country has seen in quite some time, and the 27-year old striker from Waltham Forest looks to be locked in heading into the Euro 2020 tournament. He has already notched twelve goals in the Euro 2020 qualifying rounds, and looks determined to lead England to its first ever Euro Cup victory.
Kane has previous history with the award, winning the Premier League Golden Boot award twice now in his young career, including the impressive 2016-2017 campaign where he netted 29 goals in 30 games. He also took home the Golden Boot award from the FIFA World Cup in 2018, leading the tournament with six goals. This season Kane has 23 goals in 35 Premier League games for his club Tottenham.

Another strong case that can be made for Kane is the likelihood of England advancing deep in the Euro 2020 tournament. England is in a pool alongside Croatia, Scotland, and the Czech Republic, which isn’t exactly a Group of Death, although that is not to downplay Croatia who finished second at the 2018 World Cup. Coupled with the fact that this is one of the strongest English squads that Kane has led, and you can see why he is up at the top of the odds board for the Golden Boot award. His chemistry with Manchester City winger Raheem Sterling, gives England one of it’s best one-two punches in recent memory.
Though unlikely, there is a chance that England steamrolls the group and thus try rest players with less playing time towards the end of the groups stage, which could lead to less goal opportunities for Kane.
So, at 6/1 odds, does Kane justify being the favorite to capture the award? There is no doubt that Kane is one of the most talented goal scorers on the continent, and given the strength of the English squad compared to their opponents, Kane should have plenty of opportunities to score. It’s an interesting toss up between Kane and Romelu Lukaku as the best bet amongst the favorites for the award. Lukaku’s Belgain squad is stacked and their road to success may be even easier than England’s. The two teams seem drawn to each other after squaring off in the third place game at the 2018 World Cup, where Belgium beat England 2-0.
Kane deserves to be the favorite, but betting on him depends on how far you think England can advance - we like the pick though as we think Kane will be fully motivated to perform with England having a real shot and going very deep in the tournament.
